Two sites identified for medical colleges

Funds sanctioned for medical college at Srikakulam
Arogya Sri to cover 4,000 patients in two districts

Srikakulam: The Minister for Medical Education and Health Insurance, Galla Aruna Kumari, who inspected two sites for location of the medical college, already sanctioned, said she would submit a report to the Chief Minister,Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy and a final decision, keeping in view future requirements, would be taken soon. A 100 acres site near Etcherla and the 20 acre Government head quarters hospital here are the two sites, Ms.Aruna Kumari inspected today. The Government had sanctioned three medical colleges for Srikakulam, Adilabad and Ongole districts and according to the Minister, Rs.130 crore had been released for the one at Srikakulam. Work would begin as soon as the site was finalised, she said.

Aarogya Sri

Ms.Aruna Kumari, who is also in charge of the Aarogya Sri programme, being implemented in three districts viz Srikakulam, Anantapur and Mehaboobnagar, said that persons without white ration cards would also be covered under the programme, provided the Mandal Revenue Officer issued a certificate to the patients. This should be counter-signed by the Collector, the Minister clarified. She said that the Arogya Sri programme would cover 4,000 patients each in the three selected districts every year.

Ms.Aruna Kumari said that so far 74 camps were organised for selection of candidates for Arogya Sri programme and the 75th one was being organised at Palakonda, about 40 km from here today. The District Collector,V.N.Vishnu, explained to the Minister the details of the plan for the location of the medical college.
