BANGALORE: Though the Government has declared that it will implement the recommendations of the High Power Committee for the Redressal of Regional Imbalances, the manner in which the Rs. 125 crore released for Gulbarga division has been allocated indicates that the Government is, in fact, ignoring the most important recommendation of maximum support for the most backward areas, B.R. Patil, MLA, has said. Mr. Patil told presspersons here on Friday that he had written to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy pointing out that the fund allocation formula spelt out in the report had not been followed, but a formula dictated by political interests of the Janata Dal (S) and its coalition partner, the Bharatiya Janata Party had found favour. An analysis by B. Sheshadri and T.R. Chandrashekar, who were members of the committee headed by D.M. Nanjundappa, indicated that more funds had gone to areas that were not backward, exceeding the allocation recommended by the Nanjundappa committee. Going by the Nanjundappa formula, Gulbarga division should have been allocated Rs. 50 crore out of the Rs. 125 crore actually released by the Government. But it received only Rs. 41.47 crore, a shortage of Rs. 8.53 crore. Consequently, Gulbarga district, which should have got Rs. 20.85 crore, received Rs. 16.47 crore, Mr. Patil said.
