PDS rice seized, two arrested
CHENNAI: The Civil Supplies CID Police last week seized rice meant for public distribution system.
A release said following specific information, the police conducted checks on container lorries heading for the Chennai Port. One of the vehicles was found to be carrying the rice. Police arrested the driver Ganesan and cleaner Balu. Enquiries were conducted at the Port with the assistance of Customs officials. Customs authorities had already cleared four containers and a few other containers with rice were about to be loaded onto a ship.
The police are on the lookout for Sivakumar and his associates, who were owners of rice mills in Vellore and Tindivanam. The Civil Supplies CID police have registered a case and are investigating. — Staff Reporter
