Taking no chances: Police taking out a flag march at Khaja Street in Berhampur on Friday.
BERHAMPUR: The city again experienced road blockades and tense moments in the Aska road and Khaja street areas on Friday. Residents of Khaja Street area blocked the NH 217 at three places near their street demanding arrest of culprits, who had made a lethal attack on a youth of their area on Thursady night. Police team led by Berhampur Superintendent of Police (SP), Dayal Gangwar reached the spot immediately to take charge of the situation. Mr Gangwar advised the agitating mob not to opt for illegal activities like road blockades in retaliation. Extra armed police patrols were deployed at Khaja street and Bila street areas to avoid any possibility of group clashes. Heavy presence of police and Gangwar’s straight talk had its impact and the road blockades could be lifted within 45 minutes. ‘Three held’
The agitating groups of Khaja street were demanding the arrest of the culprits behind the attack on the youth of their area. According to police sources they have already detained three persons in relation to the incident and they are being interrogated to track down the main culprits.
