FDI in Defence production opposed

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Joint Action Front of different trade unions has criticised the Central Government’s move to allow 50 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) in Defence production and atomic energy on the basis of Vijay Kelkar Committee report. The move, the front said, was not only detrimental to the Defence public sector undertakings, but also posed serious security threat to the nation.

Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, the front members said that the report had shocked employees and trade unions alike. The PSUs were unable to fully utilise their installed capacity because of lack of timely orders by the armed forces.
