Court refuses to interfere with SI selection

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has declined to interfere with the selection of Sub-Inspectors of Police.

Justice K. Venkataraman declined to stay the process, when a writ petition filed by P. Ravi Selvam of Chennai came up for admission.

The judge, however, made it clear that any appointment made at the end of the process would be subject to the outcome of the present writ petition. He asked the Government to file its reply in two weeks. The petitioner, alleging discrepancies in the selection, said the results of the performance of wards of police personnel, such as him, were not published as a separate category.

The marks obtained in the written test were not published and the legal heirs of the police personnel were included in the general category, he said. The direction to indicate answers in pencils would give room for tampering with answer sheets.

Contrary to the announcement that the results would be published in newspapers, the authorities posted it on the Internet without intimation.

He sought to restrain the authorities from acting upon the results of the written examination published on June 7 and to quash it.
