Stunning win for AP

AP girls pulled off a stunning 80-58 win over U.P. after leading 32-29 half-way through in the pre-quarterfinals of the junior National basketball championships at the District Sports Authority (DSA) courts on Saturday.

The visitor was ahead 12-9 at the end of the first quarter, but the trio of Kavaljit, B. Radhika and Anjana Chowdary combined well for the host, logging 23 points between them in the second.

The home side's fast game didn't allow U.P. to settle down, as the former steadily stretched its lead with each passing period of play. The half-court press it enforced effectively contained the U.P. attack, as the winner widened the gap to post a convincing win and advance to the quarterfinals. Joining it was Karnataka, an 80-33 winner over Orissa.

In Sunday's quarter-finals, Karnataka will take on Chattisgarh, the reigning girls champion, while AP faces Delhi, the runner up last year.

Half a dozen three-pointers by Siddhant enabled Maharashtra boys record a 95-73 victory over Chandigarh. On the indoor court, Kerala trounced Gujarat 83-58.
