Special Correspondent
Puducherry: The Directorate of Education has launched a door-to-door survey in rural areas in Puducherry and outlying regions to find out children who had either dropped out of school or had never been enrolled. Education Minister M.O.H.F. Shahjahan said in a release here recently that diploma students in Teachers Education and kindergarten teachers were deployed to visit every household to collect details of the children, the particulars of parents and their educational status. The drive was aimed at achieving the goal of the "Sarva Siksha Abhiyan" of the Centre. Mr. Shahjahan said that while the rural areas would be covered under the drive launched on June 13, the survey in urban areas would be taken up in July. The identified children would be admitted to alternative schools or regular schools according to their age. Already, the administration was providing education for all up to VIII Standard, but the survey had been launched in keeping with the directive of the Union HRD Ministry.
