Haroon Habib

DHAKA: Awami League president Sheikh Hasina on Friday postponed her scheduled visit to the U.S. after the Government ordered immigration officials not to let her leave the country.

Matia Chowdhury, a presidium member of the party and former minister, told reporters that Ms. Hasina was still ready to fly if the Government permitted her, to visit her daughter, who was expected to give birth in the U.S. "We hope good sense will prevail and the Government will lift the ban."

Police said two businessmen had lodged cases accusing Ms. Hasina of extorting Taka 8 crore from them.

A court in Dhaka earlier ordered the police not to allow her to leave the country.
