CHANDIGARH: The Haryana State Sanitary Board has decided to allocate Rs.392 crore for providing drinking water supply in the rural areas besides providing four lakh free water connections to Scheduled Caste households. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who presided over the Board meeting, said that Rs.80 crore was allocated for providing drinking water supply and sewerage facilities in urban areas. He directed the officers of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department to give priority to early completion of the ongoing schemes. Moreover, new schemes should be appropriately financed so that these were completed within two years, he added. He also directed the Commissioner and Secretary (Water Supply and Sanitation) that the ongoing works falling in the National Capital Region be completed in the next one year. Public Health Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said works worth Rs.117 crore were going on in the rural areas while works costing Rs.340 crore were being executed in the urban areas. He disclosed that during the current financial year, Rs.145 crore would be incurred on the Indira Gandhi Drinking Water Scheme to provide free water connections along with a 200-litre water tank to four lakh Scheduled Castes households. The Department would also provide public health amenities to model villages and sports stadiums. Chief Minister's Principal Secretary M. L. Tayal called for establishment of a monitoring system to maintain quality control of the works to be executed by the Department. Commissioner and Secretary (Water Supply and Sanitation) Dalip Singh disclosed that the Haryana Government had forwarded schemes costing Rs. 175 crore to the National Capital Region Planning Board for the towns of Rewari, Ganaur,Bahadurgarh, Beri, Kalanaur, Kharkhoda, Sonipat, Meham and Bawal.
