Artillerymen Centre beats Income Tax

HYDERABAD: Artillery Centre defeated Income Tax 2-0 in the A-1 Division hockey league championship at Begumpet Police Stadium here on Saturday. The first goal was scored by centre-forward Osman who latched on to a neat pass from Deepak to find the target in the 15th minute of the first-half.

In the second session, winger Balraj Singh was quick to position himself well for a pass from I. Singh to complete the tally for the winner in the 38th minute.

The highlight of the match was the fine show by IT goalkeeper Muralikrishna who brought off many good saves.

Raj Kumar shines

Raj Kumar's spell (five for 28) helped Khammam record an eight-wicket win over Adilabad in the HCA districts league cricket championship here.

The scores: Adilabad 107 (Raj Kumar five for 28) lost to Khammam 109 for two (Rajender 53 not out).

Warangal 246 for five (Yakub Pasha 102 not out, Hasnuddin 44, Zameer Hussaini 56) bt Karimnagar 173 (Basheer four for 27).

Easy for SBH `B'

State Bank of Hyderabad `B' scored a 137-run win over JD Corporation in the second SBH Cup cricket tournament here.

The scores: SBH `B' 227 (K. Nagraj 53, Sujath Ali 40, Ganesh 52 not out) bt JD Corporation 90 (Zakir Ali five for 18).

Srinivas triumphs

National sub-junior champion K. Srinivas and India No. 4 in cadet category G. Shravika Reddy won the boys and girls' titles in respectively in the juniors' category of the inter-district sub-junior and cadet carrom championship here.

Srinivas defeated U. Naresh 25-3, 25-13 while Shravika got the better of A. Manisha 25-0, 25-15. S.S. Sai defeated D. Kalyan 25-15, 25-18 in the cadet boys' final while S.N.S. Lahari downed D. Bhavysha 25-15, 15-20, 25-24 in the girls' final.

Venkatesh's feat

A. Venkatesh of Sarathi Taekwondo Academy (Hyderabad), who won the gold in the fourth National open junior and senior taekwondo championship in Visakhapatnam, has become the first from the State to be picked to represent India in the international taekwondo championship to be held in Jordan later this year.
