Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court on Friday ordered issue of notices to the Union and State governments on a petition by B. Krishna Bhat of Bangalore questioning the proposed foreign trip to be undertaken by the legislators of the State. The petitioner said he did have any objection whatsoever if the legislators undertook to pay from their pocket for their foreign tour. Drought
He said at a time when the State was suffering from drought, the State Government is getting ready to spend Rs. 5.30 crore on the foreign jaunt of legislators. He cited an earlier Division Bench judgment which, several years ago, said that the State should not pay for such foreign trips of legislators. A Division Bench comprising Justice Chidananda Ullal and Justice Ashok B. Hinchigeri refused to pass any orders and directed issue of notices to the State and Union governments. It adjourned further hearing on the issue. Habeas corpus
The Bangalore city police on Friday produced before the High Court the daughter of an advocate who had allegedly gone missing from Bangalore. A Division Bench comprising Justice V. Gopal Gowda and Justice H. Billappa during the last hearing taken the police to task for failing to trace the girl and summoned the Commissioner of Police, Bangalore. The court had asked the Commissioner to make all efforts to trace the girl. The girl and her male companion were produced before the court. The girl informed the court that she was in Ahmedabad and that she had come to Bangalore by a morning flight. The Bench indicated that it wanted to hear the girl in camera and adjourned further proceedings of the court hall.
