TIRUPATI: Cadres of the Chittoor district unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) have on Saturday held a dharna in Tirupati protesting against the police registering cases against 29 party workers including 15 women nearly an year after they had withdrawn an agitation. P. Harinadha Reddy, district secretary of the CPI who led the dharna and the sit-in has accused the Government and the police of backtracking on their promise on two counts -- one, that they would arrange for the distribution of the pattas after securing the Cabinet approval and secondly that no case would be registered against anyone if the party cadres called-off their 100-day long agitation demanding pattas to the farmers at Vedanthapuram on the outskirts of Tirupati.
