Kochi: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) urged the State Government on Saturday to immediately take up with the Tamil Nadu Government the issue of providing treatment to party chief Abdul Nazir Maudany in a Coimbatore jail. At a press conference, party working chairman Poonthura Siraj said the condition of the leader had deteriorated badly. He said that because of the ban imposed by the Jayalalithaa Government on taking out Maudany from the jail premises, the authorities were unable to admit him to hospital. Moudany was a cardiac patient. Efforts of the Left Democratic Front Government had helped him get Ayurvedic treatment inside the jail. However, the Tamil Nadu Government had not initiated any steps to lift the ban. Besides, trial of the cases against Maudany had been delayed. He said the United Democratic Front (UDF) should support the move of the Government to evict big encroachers from Government land. The UDF was trying to create communal disharmony on the basis of the recent orders issued by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthandnan on eviction. The UDF leadership was deeply depressed at the public support Mr. Achuthanandan got for his efforts to evict encroachers.
