THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has requested power consumers to switch off their fridges during the peak hours of power consumption from 6.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily to save on their electricity bills and help the State tide over peak- hour load problems. In a press release, the KSEB said studies by its research wing had shown that the fridge would regain the original low temperature inside consuming lesser quantity of electricity than that saved during the two-and-half-hour interval when it remained switched off. Fridge consumes more electricity than some of the other home appliances. Its power intake increases with size and age. Each house can save 10 to 15 per cent of power consumption by switching off the fridge during peak hours. — Special Correspondent
