Making a point: Activists of Bajrang Dal taking out a rally in Berhampur on Saturday.
BERHAMPUR: Bajrang Dal activists held a demonstration in front of the Berhampur municipality on Saturday demanding immediate removal of stray cows and bulls from the roads of the city to ease traffic. Led by the State coordinator of the Bajrang Dal, Ramakant Rath, these activists alleged that numerous accidents were being caused due to the stray bovines on busy roads as well as NH 217 that passes through the city. They demanded the municipality to take strict action against the owners of cows, who leave their pets to stray around. According to them it was high time for the municipality to have a ’Gosala’ where all stray cows and bulls of the city could be sent to. They also wanted some check on the use of polythene bags in the city which is causing deaths of stray herbivores, who also consume them. They objected to the unlawful slaughter of animals at roadside meat shops and demanded a check on unlicensed meat shops. They asked the the municipality should establish permanent fish and meat markets at different parts of the city and keep its surrounding clean. They wanted curbs on makeshift ’Kabab’ kiosks on the roadside with allegation that these units are polluting the atmosphere near parks and public places with the fumes generated through grilling of meat in their open coke ovens.
