KORAPUT: The accident on Friday, where two children had died when a mini truck overturned in Kuntarkhal near Jeypore in Koraput district has exposed poor implementation of the policy to check child labour in the State, it is alleged. For quite a long time there has been regular allegations of engaging children as daily labours in local industries. But the local administration could not feel the pulse of its consequences till two child labours died on the spot. People have reiterated their demanded for an enquiry into the alleged employment of children in these hazardous industries. These children were coming to a cashew industry to work as daily labours , Sabitri Harijan, mother of Malati Harijan, a girl in her early teens who was admitted to the District Headquarter hospital at Koraput, said. These children at least 30 of them from Nuaguda village near Jeypore attend the cashew factory to work daily to support their families , she said.
