BHUBANESWAR: The police on Saturday claimed to have nabbed an inter-state arm smuggler who was supplying weapons to criminals of the State. Addressing a press conference, Deputy Inspector-General, Bhubaneswar Y. B. Khurania said Mahesh Saha alias Mahesh Bihari was wanted in many cases and his arrest would help police crack other crimes. Mahesh Saha (32) was arrested when he was getting off from a train at Bhubaneswar railway station on Friday night, Mr. Khurania said. Police seized six pistols, two guns, eight magazines, 36 (9 mm) bullets and a mobile phone from his custody, the DIG said. The accused belonged to Munger in Bihar and acting as a link between dreaded criminals of Bihar and Orissa, police sources said. Held six times
He had been arrested by the Orissa police way back in 1996 on charges of smuggling arms. Later, the police had nabbed him on five occasions. Mr. Khurania said the city police had constituted a special squad to keep track on the movement of Mahesh Bihari and his contacts in Bhubaneswar. On receiving a tip-off from sources, police was waiting at the station to catch him.
