Man’s bid to jump from Charminar foiled

HYDERABAD: A goldsmith, Reddeppa, 31, who allegedly tried to end his life by jumping from Charminar, landed behind the bars here on Saturday. A resident of Chittoor town, Reddeppa, along with his mother and a woman relative, came to the house of his in-laws at Santoshnagar to see his ailing wife Shivani. She was suffering from a heart disease and living with her parents for over two years. Reddeppa asked his in-laws to send his wife with him saying he would get her treated in a charity hospital at Puttaparthy. An argument ensued as his in-laws refused to send Shivani. They reportedly maintained that Shivani would be operated upon in a city hospital in a few days and all arrangements had been made.

Angered over their refusal, Reddeppa left the house of his in-laws and went up to Charminar.Alerted by the din, security guards rushed upstairs and brought him down. Later, they handed over Reddeppa to Charminar Police registered a case of suicide attempt against him.

Four held

Cyberabad police on Saturday arrested four members of an alleged gang of robbers and recovered stolen property worth Rs. 4.5 lakhs from them.

The arrested Y. Venkata Swamy, 35, R. Pavan Kumar, 23, O. Narsimha, 21, and P. Ranjith Kumar, 31, admitted to have committed six robberies, two chain snatchings and theft of two bikes. Cyberabad Police Commissioner S. Prabhakar Reddy told reporters that the accused were earlier arrested in different crimes.

The recovered property included 335 grams of gold jewellery, four mobile phones and two bikes.
