City not showcased properly: Gulzar

Staff Reporter

VIJAWAWADA: It is a common notion that the city, when compared to other major cities and towns in the State, is underdeveloped, despite it being often referred to as the ‘political and business capital’ of the State. Organisations such as the Andhra Chamber of Commerce and Industry feel that negligence, non-cooperation from the Government and lack of funds are some of the reasons for this underdevelopment.

However, Municipal Commissioner Natarajan Gulzar feels that the city has not been “showcased properly” at any given point of time.

Delivering a lecture on ‘Vijayawada city development’ organised by the ACCI on Saturday, Mr. Gulzar said cities and towns such as Visakhapatnam, Nanded and Pimpri-Chinchwad had succeeded in tapping funds and projects primarily due to active pressure groups, which could work at various levels.

ACCI president M. Rajaiah, industrialist Chukkapalli Kushalava and others spoke.
