Shipyard to come up as part of SEZ

Kakinada: A shipyard either of L& T or Dubai dry docks limited is a certainty in the Kakinada SEZ and most likely a decision is expected within a couple of months, according to K.V.Rao Director SEZ.

The shape of the industrial units that are to be located in the SEZ also, he said would be finalised, basing on the Master Plan evolved by world-renowned consultants TSG, Washington DC. Most modern, yet advanced units only would come up in the SEZ that changes the entire industrial scenario in the region. Of the total 8,400 acres notified as required for the SEZ, Rao said, so far 6,400 acres were mobilised-700 acres through land acquisition and the remaining by direct purchase.

Rehabilitation

Of the lands acquired, he said, only 150 acres constitutes either the government land or the assigned land.

He said the land acquisition and at the same time the rehabilitation process was expected to enter the final stage, paving the way for the laying of the foundation stone by August end. Rao said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was being invited to lay the foundation for the SEZ and the ONGC refinery.
