Staff Reporter
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Mayor, R. Venkatachalam, acting on the representations of the Rajasthanis living in Coimbatore has written to the Nilgiris MP, R. Prabhu and the Union Railway Minister, Laloo Prasad to provide adequate railway connectivity between Coimbatore and Rajasthan.
In his memorandum, Mr. Venkatachalam pointed out that Coimbatore has hundreds of textile mills, spinning mills, foundries and thousands of small scale industries. In addition, the city has a number of well-established and reputed educational institutions. A number of Information Technology firms were coming to Coimbatore. Despite Coimbatore being one of the largest revenue earner for the Southern Railway, it lacked adequate rail connectivity with the North as well as to the other State Headquarters.
