DUBAI: Israeli officials have underplayed a rocket attack from south Lebanon by describing it as an act by a Palestinian fringe group. Two rockets hit an area close to the Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona on Sunday evening. While the attacks did not cause extensive damage, they, nevertheless, brought back memories of last year’s war between Israel and Hizbollah. However, Hizbollah has denied any role in the firing. “We had nothing to do with this,” a Hizbollah spokesman was quoted as saying. According to the Lebanese television station LBC, the rockets were fired from the Lebanese village of Taibeh, 4 km inside Lebanon’s border with Israel. One of the rockets smashed into a factory, while the other damaged park ed cars. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who is on a visit to the U.S., said the attack was probably carried out by “a small Palestinian movement”. “We are still clarifying the circumstances,” he said.
