Left parties join hands for land struggle

HYDERABAD: After a long gap, the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) have joined forces to mount pressure on the Government for distribution of house sites and land to poor.

Though fighting for the same cause ever since the land struggle was launched on May 6, the two parties have maintained a distance by organising protests separately.

Notwithstanding the claims of their leaders, there was little coordination at the ground level and instances where the leaders openly criticised one another.

While the CPI (M) has been going hammer and tongs at the Congress Government, the CPI has been less trenchant in its attack.

Against the backdrop of doubts being cast over Left unity, leaders of the CPI, CPI (M), CPI (Marxist-Leninist), CPI (ML-Committee) and CPI (ML-New Democracy) met here on Monday to discuss the course of action to be adopted to give boost to the land struggle.

They decided to send out strong signals to the people that minor differences apart, the Left wing parties continued to remain united on the issue of taking up issues concerning the people.

Action plans

Accordingly, the parties’ would hold seminars at the district level to begin with and chalk out action plans that should be adopted to bring pressure on the authorities concerned to take up land distribution.

“We have asked the district units to hold seminars for finalising the modes of agitation that should be adopted in the respective areas,” CPI (M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu said.

The joint action is likely to take a concrete shape by July first week and the Left parties would go ahead with the programmes they had announced earlier.
