NEW DELHI: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday welcomed External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s announcement on the constitution of the Nalanda University Mentor Group. Mr. Mukherjee made the announcement in Singapore and said Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen would head the Group. In a statement here, Mr. Kumar said the Group’s recommendations would be valuable in determining the structure and management of the proposed university. On his meetings with the President and Prime Minister about the State’s initiative to set up the university, he said making Nalanda once again a seat of learning figured in discussions with other countries also. Law enacted
Mr. Kumar pointed out that the Legislature had enacted a law for setting up the university through international partnership. It also provided for participation of an international consortium in the management of the university.
