Two CRPF men killed
Diphu: Two CRPF personnel were killed and five other jawans injured when the ULFA and the Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) ambushed a joint police and CRPF team near here on Tuesday, official sources said.
The incident occurred at remote Samelangshu area under Howraghta police station, they said.
The Karbi Anglong district Superintendent of Police Anurag Tangkha, who led the team, escaped unhurt but two CRPF personnel died on the spot and five others, including an Assam Police Commando, were injured as the extremists exploded bombs and fired from hill top on the convoy of vehicles.
The sources said the joint police and CRPF force had gone to the area for an operation after receiving a tip-off when the ultras ambushed them.
The militants immediately fled into the nearby jungle. — PTI
