NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha member Karan Singh on Tuesday resigned from the newly reconstituted board of trustees of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) citing too many preoccupations. His resignation came ahead of the first meeting of the board of trustees which later elected Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s special envoy to West Asia, Chinmaya R. Garekhan, as IGNCA president. Confirming his resignation, Mr. Singh told The Hindu that he had resigned from the Board because “I have just too much on my hands right now.”. In particular, he cited his work at the Indian Council for Cultural Relations where he is the president. He sent in his resignation in the morning; exactly a month and two days after he was nominated again to the board of trustees. The board of trustees was reconstituted on May 17 and the new entrants were Mr. Garekhan, Doon School headmaster Kanti Bajpai and former bureaucrat, Anil Baijal. Other members include the former IGNCA president, Kapila Vatsyayan, industrialist Ratan Tata and former bureaucrat, Salman Haider.
