CHENNAI: No books, no home work and no loaded bags to school anymore. Andhra Mahila Sabha (AMS) is all set to inaugurate Mahila Vidyalaya Nursery and Primary School at its Luz campus with a new teaching method — Concept Learning Integrated Programme (CLIP) — for economically weak students. AMS chairperson Jaya Venugopal, who designed the programme, said CLIP motivated creative learning of concepts through a combination of multimedia, visuals and classroom activities. “Every child would carry home a file of academic activities by the weekend. Their performance would be evaluated every fortnight,” she said. Ms. Venugopal, who is also director of the International Council for Educational Research and Training, spent five years experimenting with the programme in about 500 schools in various parts of the country. Picture reading, dance, group singing and games form part of the learning process, she said. Painted in bright hues and equipped with modern educational techniques, the crèche and nursery section of the school adorn a new look. About Rs.5 lakh was spent towards the programme. To be inaugurated on Wednesday, the school has admitted 25 students so far, she said. Though the programme costs Rs.15,000 for a child, the AMS has decided to provide education at a subsidised cost of Rs.3,000.About Rs.1 lakh would be deposited as endowment for each child’s education, she added. Managing Director of TheHindu and Music Academy president N. Murali and AMS trustee P. Obul Reddy are scheduled to participate in the inaugural ceremony.
