THE ARTIST WITH HER WORKS: M. Indu at the Lalithakala Akademi hall in Kozhikode.
The photographs portray small things in life in a different light. M. Indu, a student of Government Dental College, loves to experiment with her artistic skills and this is amply reflected in the 27 photographs and two paintings exhibited at the Lalithakala Akademi Art Gallery in Kozhikode. The collection comprises mostly black and white photographs. “I like black,” reasons Indu. Though not formally trained, she developed a liking for painting and used to participate in contests. Her interest in painting took her to photography. Some works have photography and painting combined. A painting done on a hand was photographed. The end product is striking. Similarly, water was sprinkled on a glass painting and shape the water drops took was photographed. Clicking away nature
She has tried to capture nature’s beauty too – be it the breath-taking scenery of Munnar or a waterfall in Vazhachal or a sunset in Muthanga. A larger-than-life photo of a dragonfly and an X-ray view of a tooth are all part of the exhibits. Her two paintings are in crayon medium. It is an experiment in colour combination, she says. She also took a photograph of the sky seen through her hostel of the Dental College. All the photographs have been taken within the last five months. The exhibition will conclude on Wednesday. J.S.
