Baby expresses displeasure

The intention of the organisers might have been noble, but Education Minister M.A. Baby believes that public events involving children should not be held during class hours.

The occasion was the State-level inauguration of reading week celebration organised jointly by the Education Department, P.N. Panicker Foundation and Information and Public Relations Department in the city on Tuesday.

The event held at Tagore Theatre around 10 a.m. was attended by hundreds of students from various city schools. Mr. Baby who inaugurated the event bluntly expressed his displeasure at the timing of the event.

“This is the time for you (students) to be in class not here,” he told the students and teachers who accompanied them.

“From now on we will make sure that no such public functions will be held during class hours,” he said.
