Showering blessings: TTD Chairman B. Karunakar Reddy attending the betrothal ceremony of Kalyanamastu programme to be conducted on June 26, in Nizamabad on Tuesday.
NIZAMABAD: The Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanams (TTD) plans to establish Adhyatmika Gurukula Pathasalas (Spiritual residential schools) in every district . The idea behind this plan is to provide excellent education to children of socially, educationally and economically backward families free of cost. At present, details are being worked out to establish such schools. Disclosing details at a press conference here on Tuesday, TTD Chairman Bhuman Karunakar Reddy said that the Devasthanams would hand over the management of its kalyanamandapams to voluntary and social service organisations. The decision to this effect was taken following complaints that the kalyanamandapams were not being maintained properly. With this, the kalyanamandapams could be used not only for the performance of weddings and TTD activities, but also for other Hindu spiritual programmes, he said. The couples who married under Kalyanamastu would be provided with free cellar ‘darsanam’ at Tirumala, he added. ‘Nitchitartam’
Earlier, attending the ‘Nitchitartam’ (engagement) function at Rajiv Gandhi Auditorium, he said the TTD had introduced free mass marriages to lessen the burden on poor people due to performance of weddings. Kalyanamastu will be organised at all TTD kalyanamandapams and prominent temples across the State on August 26 morning. The entire wedding expenditure would be borne by the TTD. There was no target and any number of couples, irrespective of caste, could get married. Since the TTD had no mechanism of its own to popularise the programme, it was not effectively being advertised in rural areas. Mr. Karunakar Reddy on the occasion blessed three couples who were engaged to get married under kalyanamastu. The ceremony was performed amid the chants of Veda mantras by TTD priests. Minister for Electricity Mohammad Ali Shabbir, Mayor D. Sanjay, MLA and TTD Board member P. Sudarshan Reddy, MLAs S. Gangaram and G. Ganga Reddy, ZP Chairperson G. Anitha and Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu attended the function.
