Work on photo-affixed ration card from next week

KOCHI: The work on the distribution of photo-affixed ration card in the district may begin by the end of next week.

The process would either be initiated across the district or on an experimental basis at the taluk level, it is learnt. The advantage of the latter option is that the authorities would be able to identify the difficulties faced in the course of the process and therefore would be better prepared while launching it on a large scale. Aluva has been identified as the taluk if the district supply authorities were to opt for the try-and-test method.

According to reports from Thiruvananthapuram, where the process was set in motion on an experimental basis in one centre, not more than 500 card holders could be photographed in a day as the verification of the credentials of the beneficiary had to be carried out alongside.
