Jayalalithaa flays attack on party activists

Special Correspondent

Chennai: General secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Jayalalithaa on Tuesday alleged that her party activists campaigning for the by-election for the Madurai (West) Assembly constituency had been attacked by ruling party men.

In a statement here, she said police had not only remained “silent spectators” during such attacks but also “foisted” cases against the AIADMK activists including secretary of the Madurai city M.G.R. Youth Forum M.S. Pandian.

Ransacked

Election offices of the AIADMK were ransacked and portraits of party founder M.G.Ramachandran were smashed in the constituency, Ms.Jayalalithaa said.

A vehicle used by party’s election wing secretary O.Panneerselvam had also been damaged in the attacks, she added.

“People will not accept such politics of violence,” she said.
