BANGALORE: The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has demanded that the Government to provide 100 per cent tax exemption to remake Kannada films and simplify rules for granting licences to build cinemas.

A delegation led by chamber president Tallam N. Nanjunda Setty on Tuesday called on Chief Minister H.D. Kumarawamy and submitted a memorandum to the Government. It demanded that subsidy for all Kannada films barring remakes and pornographic films. The KFCC urged the Government to set up a single window agency to seek clearances at one place for film shooting at all historical places. The Government had not taken any decision on the proposed film city project. A 300-acre land had been earmarked at Hesaraghatta, the memorandum said.

Committees formed

The Government has constituted two committees for selecting films that are eligible for the annual subsidy and the annual awards.

It has appointed filmmakers Girish Kasaravalli and Nagathihalli Chandrashekhara as the chairpersons of the subsidy and the award committees respectively, according to a press release here on Tuesday. The subsidy committee comprises the former Chairman of the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Giraddy Govindaraju, educationist K.E. Radhakrishna, former chairman of Rangayana C. Basavalingaiah, writer Bhanu Mushtaq, journalist B.N. Subramanya and Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce secretary Vijayakumar.

Actor Ramakrishna, cinematographer B.S. Basavaraju, singer B.K. Sumithra, producer K.C.N. Kumar, stage technician N. Damodara Shetty, art director Shashidhara Adapa and journalist Ismail constitute the awards committee.
