Land occupied on May 23 by over 800 people Land distribution by July 10
NALGONDA: Breaking an impasse generated by the occupation of the Government land at Ramnagar on the outskirts of the town for the second time in a month by the underprivileged, the revenue authorities have agreed to distribute land for the ‘eligible poor’ by July 10. The deadline was set at a meeting held between the Revenue Divisional Officer R. Hari Singh and the CPI (M) leaders — MLC Ch.Sitaramulu and N. Narasimha Reddy, the party’s district committee secretary on Tuesday. It may be recalled that more than 800 people had occupied the same vacant land on May 23. They lived there for three days before being forcibly evicted by a posse of police and revenue staff. The leaders, who launched an indefinite hunger strike in the jail, led another occupation drive after coming out on bail. “The poor, who re-occupied the land five days ago, have been living in the makeshift tents. They would intensify the movement, if the Government failed to allot pattas to them,” Mr.Sitaramulu said. The TDP State vice-president and former MP Gutta Sukhender Reddy interacted with the poor at the site on Monday and extended his party’s support for the ‘bhoo poratam.’
