Highway robbers nabbed

GUNTUR: When Maremalla Khatyodhan, who owns Reliance Web World at Mangalagiri, pulled down the shutters on Monday night and was returning to Guntur on the NH 5, he had inkling of the things to follow. Three miscreants, including Nanduri Sivaraju, an employee at the same shop, were close on his heels with an intention of robbing him.

As soon as Khayodhan reached Koppuravuru village, the attackers driving a scooter waylaid him, beat him and made away with the cash bag containing Rs.58,600. However, he mustered up courage and chased the miscreants. He even managed to raise an alarm drawing the attention of two beat constables K. Rambabu and Nagamallwara Rao. They took the help of locals and nabbed one of the three offenders, Rambabu. The other two managed to flee away.

Rural Inspector of Police K. Jagadeeswara Reddy, Guntur Rural, Sub Inspector U. Ravi Chandra, launched a search to trace the offenders.

The two, Kasi Viswanath and Rahul alias Winny gave in at about 5 a.m. on Tuesday. The entire stolen amount was recovered. Based on a complaint by Khatyodhan, the police registered a case and arrested the four persons. All the accused were aged between 18-20 years.

Presenting the accused before the media, Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha complimented the exemplary spirit shown by Khatyodhan and said that his name would be recommended for the bravery award. He gave away cash rewards to the police constables and the locals, who had helped the cops to nab the culprits.
