Rectified spirit seized

CHENNAI: Nearly 420 cans of rectified spirit, meant for being smuggled to Palakkad, was seized by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing personnel at Pattinam Pudur junction in Coimbatore district during a State-wide raid and vehicle check that started on Saturday. The police gave a chase and intercepted the vehicle, which was transporting 14,700 litres of rectified spirit, worth Rs.23 lakh.

The police seized 318 cans, containing 10,850 litres of rectified spirit, from a tanker lorry, which transported it under the pretext of carrying liquid oxygen at Tenkasi. Sunil Kumar of Kerala was arrested , says a police release.
