Hundreds of students line up in front of District Employment Office

Worthy wait: Students wait at the Municipal Higher Secondary School in Gobichettipalayam to register their names in the special camp conducted by the District Employment Office. –

ERODE: Hundreds of students who have just passed Plus-Two queued up in front of the District Employment Office here to register their names.

Immediately after they got their marklists, they were seen rushing to the cramped office functioning at a rented building at Manalmedu. Most of them hailed from Sathyamangalam, Gobichettipalayam and Dharapuram.

“It is a pitiable sight,” said the District Employment Officer, O.S.Gunasekaran. “Some have even spent more than Rs. 100 towards travelling expenses and food,” he added.

More staff have been arranged to handle the rush. Special camps will be organised at Thalawady, Sathyamangalam, Gobichettipalayam and Dharapuram, he said.

Special camps were conducted at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Gobichettipalayam and CSI Boys Higher Secondary School in Dharapuram on Monday and Tuesday. The response was very high, he said.

More than 800 boys and girls from Gobichettipalayam and Bhavani taluks have registered their names in the camp at Gobichettipalayam. In Dharapuram, students from Kangeyam, Vellakoil and Dharapuram areas registered their names. In the two days, more than 1,200 students have registered their names.

Mr. Gunasekaran said that on June 25 a special camp would be conducted at Thalawady for the benefit of the tribals and on June

26 at Sathyamangalam for the benefit of students from Sathyamangalam,

Punjai Puliampatty and Bhavanisagar.

During last week 1,289 boys and 1,282 girls who have passed Standard X have registered their names at the Erode Employment Office.

The District Collector, T. Udhaychandran, said that water and toilet facilities have been provided at the special camps and sufficient employees deployed. Many parents said such special camps were useful otherwise they would have to spent more money towards travelling and food expenses.
