Vamsadhara compensation to be re-evaluated

Srikakulam: Evaluation of houses and other structures that are to be demolished as part of the land acquisition process for the Vamsadhara project that is made by the engineering wing has been cancelled.

The evaluation was made for payment of compensation. The decision was taken because of complaints of irregularities in fixing the value of houses and others structures.

The task of evaluation was now entrusted to the Roads and Buildings Department, Joint Collector M. Veerabrahmiah said while reviewing the land acquisition proceedings for Vamsadhara and other irrigation projects here on Tuesday.

The value for 1,356 houses was fixed by the engineering wing of the project. This would be cancelled. There would be revaluation of the same houses and structures as per the guidelines of the R&B Department.

Payment of compensation as per the value fixed by the engineering staff was also completed in respect of 681 houses.

This would be inspected by the R&B staff again and re-fix the value. If excess payment was made, the same would be recovered, the Joint Collector said.

The R&B staff would form into eight groups and complete the evaluation work.

Since only two or three houses could be evaluated on a single day, the whole exercise would take at least three months, R&B officials said. In all, more than 6,500 houses and structures were to be evaluated.

The Joint Collector instructed officials concerned to expedite land acquisition process for the Thotapalli irrigation project.
