Merger with Godavari contingency plan Vigil over irrigation tanks, railway tracks planned
KARIMNAGAR: Taking into consideration last year’s experience of devastating floods in Karimnagar region, the district administration had decided to prepare a revised flood contingency plan to meet any eventuality in the wake of flash floods in the district. The last flood contingency plan for the district was prepared in the year 1993. Since then there was no fresh plan as the district reeled under acute drought conditions continuously. Incidentally, during the last monsoon season, the floods had ravaged the entire district causing huge loss to mankind and property. In order to face the threat of a flood, the district administration had decided to prepare revised flood contingency plan by merging it with the Godavari contingency plan. Accordingly, the authorities have been told to prepare the plan by identifying all low-lying areas, submergible villages in the entire area, chalk-out plans for shifting of people to relief camps much in advance, stocking of water, food and medicines, deployment of in-charges for each mandal, etc. , Collector M. V. Satyanarayana instructed the municipal authorities to fix grills and mesh to open drains and warned them not to repeat the past experience. The Civil Supplies authorities are to procure three months food materials for distribution in interior villages of Manthani.
