Bypass to come up at Nandyal

Special Correspondent

Civic body also proposes ring road

NANDYAL: A ring road and a bypass to avoid railway level crossings were proposed at a cost of Rs 22 crores in Nandyal, Municipal Commissioner S. Ravindrababu has said. The ring road which originates at Nandi Dairy passes through SRBC colony, Y.S. Nagar, PV Nagar, Billapuram, Kottala, Iluri Metta and rejoins the National Highway near Chabole. The road costs Rs 15 crore.

The Roads and Buildings Department was conducting a survey on the ring road and its feasibility. Mr. Ravindrababu said work was in progress on the bypass which was intended to avoid two railway levels crossings before entering the town.

Proposals

The bypass would cost Rs 7 crore. The work on the bridge across Kundu was in progress.

The Commissioner said a detailed report on underground drainage was sent to the Government, which is estimated to cost Rs. 50 crore. The underground drainage system was important for Nandyal town, which is located in a shallow area. The run-off caused by rainfall in the nearby hilly areas essentially flow through the rivulets crisscrossing the town.

Mr. Ravindrababu said Nandamuri Nagar which was left out both from rural and urban administration was included in Nandyal town through a special order in the first week of June. The residents of the town suffered for 15 years in the absence of formal status to the locality.

He said Nandyal town would not have any water problem once the summer storage tank becomes operational. Repairs were being carried out on the bund. Around 300 tmcft was stocked in the Velugodu Balancing reservoir for the town every summer. He said with minor expansions, the town would be able to supply the required quantity of water till 2030.
