One doctor joins duty at Patrapur PHC Action to be taken against guilty of violence
BERHAMPUR: A high-level team of bureaucrats and police officials reached violence ravaged Patrapur village in Ganjam district on Tuesday to take note of the happenings and present situation. This team comprised Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), Southern division, C.T.M.Suguna, Inspector General of Police Pradip Kapur, Additional Revenue Secretary, B.B.Nayak, Joint Secretary of Panchayatiraj Department Baidhar Biswal, State Health and Family Welfare Director Usha Padhi, Ganjam Collector V.K.Pandian, Berhampur Superintendent of Police Dayal Gangwar. The team visited the Community Health Center (CHC), block office and the tehsil office, which were damaged during violence on June 14 following death of an injured youth while no doctor was present at the CHC. The team members held meeting with the local tehsildar Khetramohan Patnaik and Patrapur Block Development Officer (BDO) Basant Kumar Sahu at the rest shed of the block office, which had escaped the wrath of the mob. Discussions were held regarding the resumption of function of tehsil office and block office at Patrapur which have got all their documents burnt down by the mob. Meanwhile a doctor, Saroj Mishra has joined for duty at the Patrapur CHC. Two more doctors posted to the place would be joining for duty within a day or two. Medicines have also reached this devastated medical center. On Tuesday around 80 patients visited the hospital to get medical help. It may be noted that five doctors who had not joined for duty at this CHC even after posting have already been suspended by the State government. Violence condemned
Speaking to newsmen at Patrapur, the IGP condemned the act of destruction of public property by the mob. He reiterated that strict action would be taken against the guilty. The District Collector said the records of the block office were being retrieved from the district headquarters . The RDC urged the officials posted at Patrapur to resume their duties as all security would be provided to them.
