ELURU: National Programme for Education of Girls at Elementary Level (NPEGEL) is under implementation in eight urban centres in West Godavari district as an extension to Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, according to a backgrounder supplied by the authorities of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan at a review meeting convened by Minister for Sarva Siksha Abhiyan M. Hanumantha Rao here on Tuesday. The programme comprises a gender component plan that intended to boost up female literacy and impart life skills and vocational training to girl students, the backgrounder said. The programme, which is meant for girls from Class 1 to Class VIII, was under implementation in the urban slums. The note said 33 model cluster schools, equipped with the facilities such as teaching and learning material, games equipment, were formed to execute the programme. The girl children would also be taught self-defence skills, life skills, riding of bicycles etc at the clusters, it added. An instructor would be appointed to impart vocational training. Bus passes
APSRTC Regional Manager S. Vijayakumar on Tuesday said the RTC concessional and free bus passes would be issued to high school and college students in all RTC Depots on 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th of every month. Applications for free bus passes would be issued from June 25 and for the concessional bus passes from June 21, the Regional Manager said. The students seeking passes are requested to approach the Depot Managers with study certificate to be given by the educational institutes in which they were studying. Land struggle
The CPI (M) district committee will join hands with the CPI in the on-going land struggle, according to its secretary Mantena Sitaram. He said the CPI (M) would take part in the programme of besieging the Collectorate to be undertaken by the CPI on June 21 as a mark of solidarity.
