Government to supply potato seeds to farmers
Federation first of its kind in India

HASSAN: Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy announced on Monday that the Government would establish a horticulture marketing federation by investing Rs. 200 crore for the purchase of tomato and other horticulture produce and that an official order would follow in a day or two.

The proposed federation would fix the purchase prices scientifically for both agriculture and horticulture produce. This would prevent farmers from throwing their produce in the street when prices crashed. The federation would be first of its kind in the country and would be a role model.

Speaking at Mosale Hosahalli village in Holenarsipur Taluk, the Chief Minister later laid the foundation stone for Government First Grade College building, Government PU Science and Commerce College building, Community Health Centre building and veterinary hospital building at a cost of Rs. 15 crore. He said that the village was the birth place of H. D. Deve Gowda and would be developed as a model . From next year, the Government would supply quality potato seeds to farmers so that there would be no fluctuation in prices, he added.

Mr.Kumaraswamy said that since he became Chief Minister, he sanctioned old-age pensions to 67,000 people, widow pensions to 68,000 and pensions for 43,000 physically challenged people. He directed deputy commissioners to ensure that applications for these pensions were settled within a month.

Former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda lauded the Chief Minister for taking up developmental works in the State.

Ministers H. D. Revanna and H. K. Kumaraswamy were present.
