Chief Minister to stay at Kannalli village on June 24

Special Correspondent

GULBARGA: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has chosen a remote village Kannalli in Surpur Taluk in Gulbarga for his Grama Vastavya programme, tentatively fixed on June 24.

Official sources said here on Tuesday that this would be the second overnight stay in a village by Mr. Kumaraswamy in the district. A year back, the Chief Minister stayed overnight in Hiremannur, a village bordering Maharashtra in Afzalpur taluk.

One major outcome of his visit in Hiremannur village was that it was included in the ambitious Rs. 1-crore development package under the Gramodaya Programme launched in select villages in the State. Incidentally, the Gramodaya Programme in the State was launched by President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Mr. Kumaraswamy, who will stay in Thurumuthina Tanda in Indi Taluk in Bijapur district on June 23, will fly to Gurmitkal town in Yadgir taluk in Gulbarga district on June 24 and later leave for Surpur Taluk after participating in a workers’ convention at Gurmitkal.

Sources said although the Chief Minister’s office has not officially communicated the name of the village where the Chief Minister would be making his Grama Vastavya, indications have been given to the district officials that the Chief Minister would stay in Kannalli village, a backward village in the district.

It has not been finalised in whose house the Chief Minister will stay in the village and his programme in the village the next day. Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey accompanied by senior officials have gone to Kannalli village in Surpur Taluk to assess the facilities there and to select a house where Mr. Kumaraswamy will stay.

The Chief Minister on June 25 will tour the village and hold discussions with villagers. Details of the Chief Minister’s programme is yet to be finalised.
