New college: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Minister for Public Works H.D. Revanna after inaugurating the H.D. Deve Gowda Government First Grade College in Paduvalahippi village on Monday.
HASSAN: Hassan University was set to be known as the H.D. Deve Gowda University but former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda has opposed this move saying he is against colleges and other educational institutions being named after him. However, the Government First Grade College (the building was inaugurated on Monday) in Paduvalahippe village in Holenarsipur Taluk is named after Mr. Deve Gowda. However, at the function it was announced that the Government First Grade College would be named after H.D. Deve Gowda. It had Arts, Science, Commerce colleges, degree colleges, Medical College, Engineering College, Veterinary College, Law College and buildings for these colleges were under progress. Chief Minister was replying to the demand made by local people that the proposed university be named after H.D. Deve Gowda. Ministers H.D. Revanna, H.K. Kumaraswamy, former Rajya Sabha member H.K. Javare Gowda, MLA H.S. Prakash were present.
