Staff Correspondent

Madikeri : The president of the Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy, Dotty Poovaiah said the Vishwa Kodava Mela (World Kodava Convention) would be held from December 23 to 25 as scheduled.

Presiding over a preliminary meeting at the Kodava Samaja here on Tuesday she said the objection of Heggade community that they were neglected was false. The academy would be undeterred by the criticism and allegations levelled against them. Kodava-speaking communities such as Kudiya, Koyava, Amma Kodava and Airi were backing the academy, Ms. Poovaiah said.

Former president of the Academy Chiriyapanda Raja Nanjappa in his address expressed similar opinion. The president of the souvenir committee U.M. Poovaiah thanked the Zilla Panchayat for supporting the event and promising financial help.

The president of the Madikeri Kodava Samaja Matanda Suresh Chengappa, who also heads the reception committee, appealed to Kodava-speaking people to come together and make the first-ever Vishwa Kodava Mela a grand success.

The estimated budget for the convention was stated to cross Rs. 1 crore as against the earlier projection of Rs. 60 lakh.
