Expressions of interest invited from consultancy firms Project cost for tenements is Rs. 195.5 crore
CHENNAI: The State Government has invited expressions of interest from consultancy firms to manage the project to construct 7,320 tenements for the tsunami-affected in Nochikuppam and Srinivasapuram located in Foreshore Estate here. The project management consultant will have to liaise between the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board, the implementing agency, and the Project Monitoring Unit of the State government. The construction of permanent houses for the families is part of the Emergency Tsunami Reconstruction Project, which is funded by the World Bank. The project cost for tenements in Nochikuppam and Srinivasapuram is Rs. 195.5 crore. The duration of project implementation is 18 months. In keeping with World Bank guidelines, the consultant would have to assist the Slum Clearance Board in monitoring work implementation, construction quality and progress of the project. The new tenements would be built at the same spot where the old, dilapidated ones stand. A public health centre, primary school, balwadis and open spaces would also be provided in the area.
