Only annual tuition fee and membership fee for PTAs allowed Move to make Scouts and Guides mandatory
TAMBARAM: Government schools should not collect money in any form other than the annual tuition fee and membership fee for Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), said R. Kannan, Director of School Education. Talking to reporters on Sunday after participating in a function at B. S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Engineering College, Vandalur, to mark the centenary year celebrations of Bharat Scouts and Guides in Chengalpattu Educational District, he said the Government schools had been clearly instructed not to collect money other than the nominal annual tuition fee and Rs. 25 from the parents as membership fee for PTAs. The Government has been taking initiatives for the past few years on the count and officials following it up. As a result, the number of government schools collecting donations has been coming down, he said, adding that people with complaints about government schools could contact the Education Department. The Government was taking steps to extend the Bharat Scouts and Guides Movement in all Government and private schools . An action plan would soon be drawn up , Mr. Kannan noted.
