Woman, daughter found dead near railway track

Coimbatore: A Government elementary school teacher Sheela (35) and her 13-year-old daughter Priyadarshini were found dead near the railway track at Madukkarai in the early hours of Tuesday. Arun, four-year-old son of Sheela was found crying near the track with injuries on his face and leg.

Police suspect the mother to have brought both her children to the railway track and jumped before an oncoming train. It is learnt that while the mother held the daughter tightly, Priyadarshini pushed her brother away from rack. According to police sources, Sheela is said to have differences of opinion with husband Mahendran.

The Nilgiris Mountain Railway (NMR) train service between Mettuppalayam and Udhagamandalam was disrupted on Tuesday morning following engine trouble when the train reached Kallar Station at 7.35 am.

The railway officials then brought another engine meant for the special train to be operated at 10 a.m.

A fire broke on a cellular service provider’s office premises on Avanashi Road near Lakshmi Mills Junction on Tuesday evening.

Equipment meant for cellular phone towers were damaged. Fire and Rescue Services Personnel battled for more than an hour to put out the fire. Thick smoke disrupted traffic on Avanashi Road. Investigation is on to find out cause of fire and extent of damage.
